Tsunami warning systems combine seismic monitoring, ocean sensors, modeling, and rapid communication to detect and alert for tsunamis—often triggered by undersea earthquakes (but also landslides or volcanic activity). They have evolved significantly since the devastating 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, which killed over 227,000 people and exposed major gaps in global coverage.
