Survival Tabs survival food: First Impressions & Taste Test | RevHiker

 

Hey what's up guys Drew here over a RevHiker Outdoors and I got a video for you today.

Now recently I've had a few companies contact me and asked me if I would review some of their stuff.

So I've got a stove on the way, I've got some fire starter to test down and I tried to get it done earlier but I had a lot of stuff going on this week.

I brought in a guy to do a concert at the church and so I had a lot of things going on and so it's taken me a little bit extra time to get to the stuff.

So I've got some fire starters, I got the stove and then I've also got this.

This comes from The Survival Tabs are these Survival Tabs so I wanted to give these a good review and basically let's get this open here.

I wanted to check these out and see what they were about, they contacted me and so I'm gonna kind of do this as a live taste test.

Now when I got the package I understood that it wasn't going to be the kind of test that I was kind of hoping for.

What I really wanted to do was go on a hike and because after I read some of the information I realized that you know what they say is that it's for long-term survival on that if you eat 16 these tabs a day it gives you a hundred percent or you don't more than a hundred percent of your recommended daily you know nutritional value for as far as like vitamins, minerals all that kind of stuff.

It's not gonna be all the calories that you need but basically they what they sent me was four of these packets and they have four tablets in them and see if you can see kind of as you can see gives a lot of good stuff in there.

Now Survival Tabs come in for four different flavors which I'm about to test.

We've got chocolate, butterscotch, strawberry and vanilla malt.

What I wanted to do was take these on a hike and basically eat nothing but these for a few days and see how I did see how they really tasted and you know how you could really live with them because they advertise them with a 25 over a 25 year shelf life once you know when they're sealed.

You can buy these in big jugs or you can get like the little packets like this and they say once the jugs are open they're good for like 90 days once you break the seal and they're 25 years before the seal is broken.

So once you crack one open you've got 90 days to eat them before they begin to lose their you know whatever their freshness or something.

So anyway I think that these Survival Tabs would be really good for survival type situations The Survival Tabs have been around for like 40 years and I guess they started with the whole space program and all that but anyway I think they could be really good for something like a bug-out bag where you know you might have your other food but if it goes too long these are really lightweight really easy to pack and it might not give you all like the calories that you're looking for but they'll probably help you from getting sick because you have all your vitamins, nutrients and all that stuff and I think it's definitely sustainable.

They do advertise on their website and I'll put a link for them that people have used them for weight loss, people have used them for all different kinds of things and they say that you can survive on just these for quite a long time.

So anyway with the sample size that I was sent which is basically a one day supply.

The most that I could really do with this review and be honest about it is simply a taste test I can't really give you what these things are gonna do.

So maybe in the future I'll get my hands on some more of them and I'll do a longer-term test but for right now I can just give you a taste test.

So let's start with the vanilla malt.

Oh one quick thing just to show you The Survival Tabs is best if used by the year 2040 so I think depending on the taste and how I like them I'm gonna look into possibly getting some more just for emergency preparedness and I'm also I really am looking into these four for ultralight hiking because I think well they wouldn't give you enough calories to really hike hard I think they could be a really good supplement to make sure that you're getting all the stuff you need while you're on the trail.

So that's kind of my take on these and the direction that I'll probably end up going.

So anyway I'm gonna test one of the vanillas and we'll go from there.

So let's see my first time opening these, first time trying them out and it kind of looked like just like a massive Flintstones vitamin more or less and I was kind of like almost like sci-fi.

You know you see the old movies and they say you'll eat nothing but pills in the future and on stuff and who knows but let's see they say you're supposed to just kind of let them melt in your mouth but that they're so delicious that you'll end up chewing them anyway.

Let's find out

If you guys have ever had like protein shakes I used to have them a ton when I was in college and I lifted and everything these remind me of that at least the vanilla one does.

So it's not like um they're not sweet they're not salty either.

I'm not sure how to kind of describe them they're not bad at all.

 

 

It's not like a nasty taste or anything, it's just um I think they're a little bit different than what I'm used to but like I said it really does remind me of like a protein type shake.

It's kind of, no it's kind of cool but I could see one to eat a lot more than what they say just based on like the satisfaction that that you get from it.

So I think The Survival Tabs was pretty good.

I'm gonna take a break, I'm gonna get some water wash it down because I don't want it affecting the other taste so stick around I'll do chocolate next.

Okay, So when I took the vanilla I said in the beginning that it looked and almost felt like a vitamin but it wasn't crunchy like that it was softer and it did melt in your mouth a little bit.

So anyway let's get on to the chocolate see if that kind of holds the same consistency in and color I'm wondering if this is gonna be brown like chocolate.

These little packets of they send them in are re-sealable and have like almost like a Ziplock type thing so you can reseal them.

No that's almost exactly the same color this thing if it ever focuses, yeah we'll see anyway good enough um, down the hatch.

Well I would tell you that the chocolate one I prefer over the vanilla, chocolate actually tastes kind of good.

I could almost eat that like a candy that's really good I like that one thing I should note that they do advertise on the package, these are all made in the USA.

The Survival Tabs are gluten free and non-gmo, so you know that's good stuff.

Those are kind of things that I tend to look for my wife and I buy not everything but we try to buy some organic food and non-gmo and all that stuff.

So anyway I kind of like that's kind of a good thing right off the bat, let's wash that down and we'll try the strawberry.

I'm not too hot to trot for that strawberry not a big fan of that.

Now should be noted that I don't really like strawberry to begin with so that might not be a good judge, maybe if we have one of my daughters try this because they love strawberries and eat them like candy so maybe I'll have one of them weigh in on the situation but for me I didn't like the strawberry very much.

Now the last batch of Survival Tabs that they sent me and this is these are the four flavors so you're kind of getting a full taste test is the butterscotch I'm kind of open on this one.

Holds some promise redeems the hope it redeems the strawberry, good grief some of these are hard to get open, I suppose that's good though for keeping them fresh with 25 years.

So this is butterscotch and yeah it's gonna go, it really tastes like butterscotch it's almost like one of those little you know the Werther's Originals or whatever.

Tastes very similar to one of those put these in here, don't lose freshness.

So yeah really not bad at all in my opinion.

I'm pretty pleased with that I would say overall my favorite has to be the chocolate I think it's the closest to the actual taste like what they advertise really does taste like chocolate to me at least.

The vanilla was okay, I could definitely deal with that I could deal with the butterscotch although for me if I was gonna be like surviving on them and you know like in an emergency type situation I obviously know that you know it's an emergency so you don't have every luxury but I would there like too sweet for me they're almost too rich.

Now you know I understand that you're not even like a million of them in a row but if I was gonna buy supply of these I would probably the majority of them would be chocolate and I'd probably have some vanilla and butterscotch too to change it up again I don't like strawberry.

So I probably wouldn't be in all that but I really did I actually enjoyed the chocolate ones quite a bit.

So anyway you know if the people over at Survival Tabs see this which I'm sure they will I would love to do like a full you know like maybe a 3/4 day hike on them and really see how they do.

I'd like to do a a more in-depth review but as it stands now I think you guys did a pretty good job on the taste test aside from the strawberry I think the packaging would definitely stand up.

You know these would be waterproof if you know if they got wet and your storage or anything like that so I think if you were storing these like in a damp basement.

I think you'd be fine I really don't see any problem these are they're actually pretty heavy material when I when I ripped him open I was almost expected in something a little flimsier it's pretty heavy stuff.

I think as far as that goes they'd be really good so like I said the serving size on these is 12 so maybe I was I was incorrect ways to the 16 but anyway I think I think these have a lot of potential I'd like to do more in-depth testing so I'm gonna try to get a hold of some more of these things and I really give you guys a good review because I think they hold promise for ultralight backpacking and they're pretty much proven.

The Survival Tabs company's been around for a long time so as far as emergencies go they're pretty well proven now I just want to give you guys some full disclosure here.

My daughter is spying on me, I just wanted to let you guys know actually at least come in here.

Oh what I got these little tablets and they're supposed to, yeah here's a strawberry one chew on that tell me if you like it.

Does taste like strawberries.

Yeah you like it mm-hmm, all right you can finish that one won't you add downstairs okay I love you.

Hey there you have it if you like strawberry than the separate ones are good.

Now I forgot where I was anyway so anyway yeah I think they're Oh full disclosure that's where I was The Survival Tabs, the company, they're not paying me anything, I want you guys to think that I'm you know I'm just kind of like they're talking head.

They contacted me on YouTube they asked if I would like to have some samples and do a review for him and I said sure send them over because I think I think they fit pretty well into my channel which is about survival and backpacking and I think for those two things they definitely holds some promise and I think as far as these versus like other emergency or survival foods these are these are quite a bit less expensive.

Now that being said you know they're not like a full meal it's this is a tab this is for like you know emergency things and I think it could really supplement these would be a good supplement to stretch out your other food quite a bit longer and make sure you're getting all the nutrition.

Now The Survival Tabs do make claims that you can survive on just these for a long time, so anyway I will I will try to get a hold of some more and do an in-depth review but as for now there's just an initial impressions and taste test and I like three of them my daughter like one of them you want another one?
