Best Food to Prepare for emergency survival for natural disaster war famine food shortage
The survival food market is currently dominated by freeze-dried foods. These foods have gained popularity due to advantages, such as a 25-year shelf life (depending on the food) and low cost. However, freeze-dried foods have some drawbacks. For instance, some brands require adding water to serve them. When you add up the requirements of extra water and storage space, freeze-dried foods are not ideal for a backpacking excursion or as an emergency supply.
The Survival Tabs offer a tablet alternative to freeze-dried foods. These tablets are small and lightweight and come with a 25-year shelf life. We recently tested these new tablets in various situations. Here is our full review.
Survival Tabs were first developed for the space program to provide a reliable source of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. The objective was to offer the body all the vitamins and minerals needed to function while absorbing each tablet quickly. Anyone who ingested a Survival Tab would function normally, even in demanding tasks. For instance, they would absorb almost all the food without passing out the excess due to improper digestion. The company claims that the tablet is digested quickly, with a 99% absorption rate. Within 5 minutes of taking it, 97% of the protein in the tablet is available to repair and replace body tissues and fluids.
Survival Tabs make the body more efficient in absorbing and digesting food, hence vital in an emergency. These tablets can be effective as a primary food source, and the company claims to have successfully tested this claim for 4-5 months. However, the company acknowledges that anyone in an emergency should seek additional alternative food sources. Survival Tabs are more effective as a supplement than an exclusive food source. Using these tablets with other foods is beneficial because you’d get all the vital vitamins and minerals in a survival tab without exhausting your supply.

This is action is meant to caution them in case of natural disasters, emergencies and catastrophes. Survival Tabs can prove handy because of being lightweight, cost-efficient and nutrient-packed with a 25-year shelf life.
Survival Tabs are designed to be taken every hour for up to 12 hours a day. However, you can consume more, but you won’t receive extra benefits. Therefore, store them in a sealed package, in a cool place. These tabs come in 24 tablet packages and 180 tablet jugs.
Ingredients
Survival Tabs are an all-in-one nutritional solution. Most people are unfamiliar with some of the compounds in these tablets because they are different from other supplements. The ingredient list includes:
“Non-fat dry milk solids, Sucrose, Vegetable Oils (including sunflower and/0r safflower oil), Calcium Phosphate, Ascorbic Acid, Vitamin E Acetate, Niacinamide, Ferrous Fumarcate, Zinc Gluconate, Calcium Pantothenate, Potassium Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Riboflavin, Thiamin Hydrochloride, Vitamin A Palmitate, Vitamin D3, Folic Acid, Potassium Iodide, and Cyanocobalamin.”
These tablets contain dry milk, thus not ideal if you’re lactose intolerant or have a dairy allergy. Dairy can also be an issue in some freeze-dried foods, but it’s hard to get the full nutritional requirements like calcium and protein without milk in many survival foods.
Testing
We tested the Survival Tabs on a weekend backpacking trip. This is a perfect scenario to evaluate a lightweight supplement because of the weight restrictions and plenty of exertion. We assessed the butterscotch flavor by consuming one tablet every hour. However, these tablets are also available in chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla malt flavors.
The taste of the tablets was surprisingly pleasant, something that most people worry about when trying “food tablets.” We later tested the chocolate and vanilla malt, and they had a similar pleasant flavor. In most cases, you may need some water after taking the tablets. However, you could consume them down without water, if needed.
The tablets keep you going, and you can tell the difference between when you’re using them and when you haven’t had one in a while. After the hike, the evening ended in a full backpacking meal. However, we did not need more food or energy because of the tablets consumed during the day. Survival Tabs are effective, and if you are curious about them, try a package.
Final Determination
Survival Tabs are an excellent survival food option and are less expensive than freeze-dried foods. Their shelf life matches other long-term options, and manufacturers suggest that these tabs last for more than 25 years. However, this storage life is not guaranteed. The weight and packaging make these tablets light. Therefore, you can carry more Survival Tabs than you would other food sources.
It’s hard to determine how consumption of Survival Tabs for a long period would affect you. However, the alternatives of starvation or burning excess calories would be worse than a sustained diet on these tabs. All in all, these tabs offer a unique advantage, unlike other survival foods. They are a must-try for any backpackers, skiers, preppers, or other outdoor enthusiasts who may need an emergency food option. You can consume them without preparation, and they weigh less, hence easily portable.
Survival Tabs can be used as a daily sole source of food. However, they were designed to be used as a supplement. Nonetheless, they can sustain a person for an extended period, depending on factors such as a person’s body constitution, mentality, and activities.

Shelf Life and Sustainability
We have samples of Survival Tabs produced between 1974 and 1975. These tablets have been stored at room temperature, and we test them periodically. We have found negligible deterioration or loss of vitamins and food value. In addition, freezing temperatures do not affect these tablets, and we estimate the shelf-life for Survival Tabs to be 25 years. However, we suggest rotating them every 2-3 years to ensure maximum food value.
